Pleased to meet you

So here's my cliche statement ... I LOVE photography.   I guess a more accurate statement would be that I LOVE the mood photography can create.

What's the difference?  Photography itself can be very technical.  ISO, aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation, lighting, etc.  I've learned that it can be very easy to worry about getting every little element perfect that you miss the shot, or worse yet, miss the mood.  While these settings are of course important, my main goal is to capture the emotions of a photo session.

I am not a "diva" photographer in the least.  I am open to suggestions, trying something new, and making it as enjoyable as possible.  Some of my favorite images come from clients wondering if they can wear a blue wig or have their kids playing at a playground.

My philosophy

Photography is such a personal style.  You can give the exact same image to 100 different photographers to edit and you'll get 100 different results.  There is no right way or wrong way (at least in my opinion).   I also like to keep things as SIMPLE as possible!

So, as you are browsing photography websites, you will see many, many different styles.  The images are basically the resume of each photographer.   If you are looking for a certain way of posing, editing, composition, etc. and don't see it in a portfolio, that's probably not the photographer for you.

You may like my style ... you may not.  After years of photography I've learned to be okay with that.   Every client knows what styles makes their heart happy.  If my images do that for you, I'd love the opportunity to work with you!

Some musings

I'm a bit of a free spirit and try to lead my life according to the saying, "It is what it is."  I know - it sounds kinda dumb.  But truly, it describes much of our lives.  If your 3-year-old is in a cranky mood at the start of the session, then that's we we have to work with.  It's best not to fret about it.  Sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery, letting him run around for 5 minutes to get energy out, me doing something goofy to distract him (which I've done many times), or worst case scenario I take some shots of him in his current mood.   I've never had a child stay in the same mood for the entire length of a session anyway, so I just wait for the next mood.

Same things goes for the weather.  I do ALL my sessions outdoors!  And unless it's a thunderstorm or 50 mile an hour winds, I usually don't feel the need to cancel a session.   Again, it's all part of the stage that will create a mood.  And on the rare occasions it is a very cloudy day (which is rare here in Colorado) - that is actually great!  Cloudy days are the best to work with as the lighting is never harsh anywhere we go.

Things that make my heart happy

Of course, my family and friends are at the top of the list.  I have a wonderful husband, amazing son, and 2 beagles.  My favorite season is what I call "Winter butting into Autumn's Territory."   I love music that makes me want to dance, stories that make me laugh so hard I cry, steady downpours, watching pretty much any sport on TV, and the "aroma of the Rocky Mountains."  You know what I'm talking about.  My top 5 Strange Favorites:  Judge Judy, Sea Monkeys, my hound dogs howling, making up my own word for a situation that a real word doesn't accurately describe, and eating M&M's 2 at a time.

Thank you for visiting my website and considering me to be your photographer.  Even if we don't end up working together, I hope I've brought a smile to your day!
